Field Records Podcast No. 14- with Glitterbug!

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

A few weeks back, I made a podcast for the dear people of Field Records from the Netherlands. And here it is, all online and everything!

As always, it’s entirely mixed by hand, no post-editing was done. It’s mostly mixed with vinyl, for tracks I don’t have on vinyl I use one of those digi DJ systems with vinyl control. The mixer I used was the old and much loved Dateq XTC, first generation (the one with those buttery 100mm faders, yum!).

You can find the original post here.

DJ Set @ Solyanka, Moscow, 4th of Sept. 2010

Glitterbug-DJ Set @ Solyanka, Moscow, 4th of Sept. 2010 by Glitterbug

This is a DJ set that I recorded on the 4th of September between 2am and 5am at the fantastic Solyanka Club ( http://s-11.ru ) in Moscow. Sorry, no playlist this time. Endless love to an unbelievable audience. This definitely was one of those unforgettable nights! Thank you!!!

(I was a little exhausted in the beginning of the set because we had a live performance at the MIGZ festival just 3 hours before i played the Solyanka gig. But having roses thrown at me after the first 30 minutes after taking control of the turntables definitely woke me up! The only thing that disturbed the fun was a horrible mixer, the Pioneer DJM 1000, that I HATE!!!)

Glitterbug’s Head Under Water Mix.

Glitterbug-Head under Water Mix by Glitterbug

This is a very experimental mix that i did in a series of DJ mixes around the release of my last album, ‘Privilege’, last May/June. It was supposed to be a podcast for a large San Francisco / New York based music magazine, but they seemed to have changed their mind along the way- so instead of having it rot on my hard drives, I thought to better share it with the rest of the world (because- I actually really love this mix…).

The set combines a few samples of things I have loved for many years (the first track is actually 38 years old), and there is very little techno- or club related music- in here. I guess i would be ecstatic to hear somebody play music like this in a club, and if it’s just in the first 2 or 3 hours of a club night.

***

14. Zoviet France – Shouting at the Ground Part 2

This mix was entirely made by hand, utilizing only two Technics turntables and a Dateq 3 channel mixer. For tracks that i don’t have on vinyl, i use Traktor Scratch with vinyl control.

The mix was recorded in one ongoing session, no post editing was done.

Efterklang-Alike. Glitterbug remix.

Efterklang-Alike (Glitterbug Remix) by Glitterbug

This is an official remix I did for the wonderful people (and dear friends) of Efterklang for the track ‘Alike’ of their current album ‘Magic Chairs’ on the legendary 4AD label.

It might take a little longer than planned until it’s released on an Efterklang remix compilation, thus we (Efterklang and I) decided, that we’ll post it already, regardless. Efterklang will send a free download link to the track with their next newsletter- so if you want it- and especially want it on your hard drive before it’s released- you’d better quickly sign up for their newsletter today! (you can do so on their website)

I loved working on this track, and it’s also my favorite on this album. We could actually witness it coming alive, since it’s one of the tracks Efterklang started working on in February 2009 in our little c.sides residency in Tel Aviv. You can also listen to the original version as a stream on the Efterklang website (in case you don’t know the album… you should listen to the whole thing!!!).

PS: In the meanwhile the newsletter as mentioned above was sent by Efterklang. Here is what they wrote:
“During the summer we have aired two remix swap projects and now today we will use the opportunity to air another free remix. This one is made by Glitterbug aka Till Rohmann from Germany. Till actually helped us getting started with making Magic Chairs back in 2009. Together with Ronni Schendar, he runs the c.sides festival and they invited us to Tel Aviv for two weeks in February 2009. During those two weeks we rehearsed and worked on songs like I Was Playing Drums, Alike, Me Me Me the Brick House for the first time.”

Recent live set: Glitterbug live @ Total Confusion, April 2010

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

This is a recording of me playing live @ the legendary Total Confusion in Cologne (I played the show together with visual artist Ronni Shendar, but sadly we did not video tape this specific show). What an amazing night we had! The Track after the little break in the end was an encore we had to play. The set consists of mostly new tracks from the upcoming album, ‘Privilege’, one track from my last EP on c.sides, the ‘Dim Flares EP’, and there are two tracks from my previous album, ‘Supershelter’.

The set was recorded as-is, stereo out from my little sub mixer, that’s it. No post-editing was done.

Live at ‘The Bass’, Jerusalem, December 2009

Glitterbug-Live at ‘The Bass’, Jerusalem, December 2009 by Glitterbug

I decided to upload this specific live set because it kinda marks the end of an era- no, I will NOT disappear from the surface of the planet, but this was the (almost) last time I performed this specific evolution of my live set. As always, this set is recorded via stereo out from my sub mixer into a Tascam recorder, no post editing/ processing was done.

My live set has been going through many changes over the past year (both as far as content and also as far as my setup goes), and there are many new tracks in there that are currently unreleased (and allow for a tiny glimpse at my next album). The next step will be to focus on the materials of my next album and to build the performance on that- from scratch. Fun!

The two shows we had in Israel were the last in the current performance tour, and the performance at the bass the last “official” one- we also played a very small intimate show mostly for friends in Tel Aviv the night after, but I did not record.

It’s been an incredible year for me (and us, meaning visual artist Ronni Shendar, whom I was fortunate enough to be able to have with me for almost every live performance), with amazing shows and invitations all over the globe. And we really had a blast with our last performance tour, but it’s also about time to hibernate a little and to focus on a few other things, like- finalizing my next album, which has been in the work for over a year now, and is scheduled for release in spring.

Usually, I don’t make my live sets downloadable, but because we will re-do everything and will start rehearsing on the new show in two weeks, this one goes out to all of you that have been there for and with us over the past year. Have fun with it and- thank you!!!

Also, many many thanks to Pacotek for hosting us that night!

‘The Last Year Mix’ for Byte.fm

Picture 3

‘The Last Year Mix’ for Byte.fm by Glitterbug

This is a 3 hour DJ set that I created for the dear people at www.byte.fm – it was broadcasted twice in October (around the release date of my last “Dim Flares EP”) and again in December. Track listing after the long text in German… the set was recorded in one take, no post-editing or cutting was done.

The text about the set in German (well, some of the information is old news… but it was first aired in October…):

Ein Teil seines nächsten Albums soll “on the road” entstehen.
