Glitterbug & Ronni Shendar live in Amsterdam / Photo by Rene Passet

We played our last show before the album break in Amsterdam last weekend. Rene Passet, legendary persona in the BeNeLux music world, and among many other things, a great supporter of my last album, came to the show and wrote this amazing little review:

“Ever since his strong debut album Supershelter I wanted to see and hear Glitterbug live.
I must say it was everything I hoped for and more. Techno so fluid, so emotional and so deep, it restores your faith in electronic dance music. The visuals were done by the charming Ronni Shendar, with whom Glitterbug is involved in the C.Sides Festival.
Next year he will release a new album, he told me. A double this time. Can’t wait!”

I am speechless. Thank you so so much Rene!!!

You can find his photo album of that night here.

Famous Last Words DJ Mix…

Glitterbug – Famous Last Words DJ Mix by Glitterbug

About the “Famous Last Words” – DJ – Mix:

I played in Beijing on July 17th 2009 for the legendary ‘White Rabbit’ crew. Sadly, the place was shut down only days before my arrival, so my appearance was moved to another club, the ‘China Doll’, a by far more mainstream club than the White Rabbit. Still, I had an amazing time, playing a 5 hour set until I was cut off by the club management (some closing time needed to be obeyed). Unfortunately I was cut in the middle of the track and didn’t get the chance to close the party in an appropriate manner. So- while listening, imagine it’s between 7am and 8am, you have been dancing all night and the DJ (in this case: me) comes up with this really strange mixture of tracks. Makes sense?

The great thing about the final hour or so of a night is: one does not have to prove anything anymore, and all that matters is the shared time together and the feeling that one will leave the club with. So this set starts with the last track i played that night at the China Doll and continues to give love and respect to the people that wanted to stay that night and a chance for me to finish an unfinished love song for Beijing and the amazing people i was lucky enough to meet there.

This set goes out to all the wonderful people that hosted me so kindly in Beijing and took such great care for me, and to everybody that stayed and celebrated with us until the morning.

This set will also be used in a radio show of Beijing’s Patrick Yu.

The Mix is 100% made by hand, just with two turntables, a Mixer (my good ol’ and beloved Dateq XTC house mixer) and that’s it.

Glitterbug Remix for Schaffhäuser & Friends / Ware81

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Ware81, out on August 31st, 2009: Mathias Schaffhäuser & Friends released the final vinyl excerpt of previously unreleased tracks from the great ‘Unequal Equality’ album, this one including a remix I made: “It’s just flesh (what they call brain) – Glitterbug’s Ibiza Panda Remix”

Yesterday, the latest Groove magazine came out and they wrote some really flattering things about my remix (wow – thanks Groove!!!):

Original German text:
“Glitterbug bedient sich in seinem “Ibiza Panda Rmix” einer gezielteren Auswahl der Einzelpartikel, schiebt Flächen zwischen Dial und Planet E dazwischen und verdichtet das Ganze zusehends zu einer heimlich wachsenden Hymne. Monströs!”

And an English translation:
“Glitterbug takes a tightly focused selection of the original elements, incorporates pads that lay somewhere between Dial and Planet E and condenses it more and more to a stealthily evolving anthem. Monstrous!”

Format: 12” Vinyl + digital
Cat.-No.: Ware 81
Distribution: Kompakt/MDM/Alive/Finetunes
Release date: 07/09/09; Barcode-CD: 8 81390 1381 6 6

The Schaffhäuser & Friends series was so much fun to make and so well received, it now enters round three with an additional bonus vinyl. All tracks on this EP have never been released, not even on the CD edition of “Unequal Equality“.

“It’s Only Flesh (What We Call Brain)” by Schaffhäuser; Pawas & Beume take a unique journey through dance history mixing crisp dubhouse and Kraut vocals. With his “Ibiza Panda Remix” Glitterbug continues right where his “Supershelter” album ended – perfectly in the middle between understatement, euphoria and desire. The vocal mix by Schaffhäuser & Midinovela’s “Quiero” takes up all of side two. Not only different from the instrumental album version with EDU’s (Buenos Aires) super smooth vocals, it also features revised and optimised arrangements and sounds.

“Dim Flares EP” coming in October…

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

My next release, the “Dim Flares EP”, to be released on the c.sides Label, just went into the vinyl press and will be on the record shelves (and hopefully on your turntables) on the 12th of October 2009. Sooooo exciting!!!

Artist: Glitterbug
Title: Dim Flares EP
Catalog Number: c.sides005 (Vinyl and Digital)
Label: c.sides label (exclusively distributed by Kompakt)

PR: Stars&Heroes Agency, Berlin
Booking: Magnet Booking, Berlin
Release Date: 12th of October 2009

Track list:
A1 So Much More (00:09:01)
A2 Deadpan (00:02:37)
B1 Daubed Beams (00:05:14)
B2 Be Content (00:08:07)

Following the great international success of Glitterbug’s album “Supershelter”, everyone has been curious to hear what this unique and unmatched producer will bring us next. And truth is, there is a lot! Glitterbug has been working on piles of new enchanting materials, tracks, projects and remixes.

As a first release in a series that will lead to his next (double CD) album, is the “Dim Flares EP”: a dream-like, intense and deep moody EP that carries that very special Glitterbug sound to a whole new level, touching on deep emotional techno with a utopian 4/4 perspective.

This beautiful EP opens with “So much More”, an epic track that releases its melancholic-euphoric mood slowly over the course of 9 minutes, turning itself into a beautiful, hopeful, hand-raising screamer that floods the dance floor with overwhelming warmth and heartfelt love. Side A ends with “Deadpan”, an intense dark ambient miniature that lets us peak at Glitterbug’s world of score-like ambient compositions.

The B-Side begins with “Daubed Beams”, a Deephouse track all Glitterbug. “Daubed Beams” feels like what mid 90’s Detroit techno released on Warp would have sounded like: unbelievably deep, pensive, warm, divine and pumping.

c.sides’ latest emotive EP culminates with “Be Content”, a warm track with a deep drive of warped pads, a dark bass-line, airy percussion and unforgettable arpeggios. This exhilarating dance track is layered with bottomless emotions, the kind you want to close your eyes to, hug the person dancing next to you and wish it would never ever end.

Coming up next: Glitterbug @ c/o pop, Cologne, on 12th and 13th of August

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

In a little less than two weeks, on the 12th of August to be exact, Colognes c/o pop will open its doors.

I will be performing twice: once in the opening night on Wednesday, the 12th of August, performing the Supershelter audio visual live show together with Ronni Shendar (before the show of Moderat), taking place at the Gloria in downtown Cologne.

The following night, Thursday, the 13th of August, I will be warming up for legendary Rick Wade on the turntables at the good ol’ Studio 672, at the Yore Label Night together with dear friends and fellow artists Murat Tepeli and a live set of the Yore Label‘s mastermind and label owner Andy Vaz.
